My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." — Dr. Seuss My students love to read. Their favorite part of the day is SQUIRT(Sustained Quiet Uninterrupted Independent Reading Time). It makes it difficult in a classroom with hard floors.

My school is located in Minneapolis.

We have a very diverse population. Many of my students do not have books to read at home or a quiet comfortable place to read them. I want to be able to offer both in my classroom. SQUIRT time is important to all of them, and I want to make that time even better!

My Project

I have several nooks and crannies in my room. However, they are not so comfortable. At this time my students are using carpet squares to provide some comfort from the hard, cold floor. I want to provide them an even more comfortable reading environment that welcomes them daily. I feel the items I requested, beanbag chairs, comfy and soft seats, and wobble chairs will help the students become relaxed readers.

I want each of my students to be comfortable and find that reading is an adventure that will lead them many places. Everyone needs to remember the following quote "Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered to them as a precious gift." — Kate DiCamillo
