My Students

The students I interact with on a daily basis are always ready for the next challenge. They can be bull-headed, arrogant, prideful to a fault, and definitely confrontational but, as I have learned the hard way, this only makes them more capable of solving problems in unique ways. I have really been forced to step up my game as a teacher to meet them at their level!

My students can be the change we want to see in this world, we just need to show that we believe in them.

I was constantly warned away from taking a job teaching in an under-served, urban school. This fear was worsened when I started reading some statistics that came from my school district and my school specifically. However, my students have proven all of these accusations wrong. They are ready to take their learning to the next level and they deserve everything this world has to offer.

My Project

My classroom style has always been about giving students the best opportunity to learn on their own terms. I have had success by focusing on a wide range of teaching methods, such as cooperative learning, manipulatives, and station work. I succeeded in convincing my administration to remove all the desks from my classroom and replace them with chairs and tables. This increased the collaboration between my students and lessened the anxiety of being in a formal math class.

This project is about taking the next step towards making my classroom a destination instead of a requirement by introducing flexible seating!

Students have loved the comfy office chairs that I have in my classroom but there is only a limited number of those and I want to reach more students by giving more options.

Included in this project are two of those new chair types, both are floor seating. These are two rockers that are cushioned and sit on the floor. These will let students choose where in the room they want to sit as they could be moved anywhere!
