This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are curious, creative and very hands-on. They are constantly pushing themselves to try their best in and out of class, which includes helping others. As students with an individualized education plan, they are learning how to communicate and advocate for their needs, including asking for breaks and more time to finish an assignment. It makes me so happy to see when they know what they need and ask for it. In the end, I would like to see them be confident.

My Project

When students are having a hard time in their classroom or the yard and feel as if they have nowhere to go, I would like the resource room to be a place where they feel safe. Students can learn different methods to relax their minds and bodies, including using sensory toys. The tactile pillows and sensory balls will be a great addition to the break area we already have. Although small, the break area is a place where students can come for a quick break to get away from the noise. Having time to relax can really make a difference for students.
