My students need to develop necessary skills to empower themselves with the skills to COPE with stress, anxiety, depression, and situations where they may need to stand up for themselves.

My Students
We are filled with joy and excitement every morning when we enter our classroom. We are fortunate to be able to work with a fantastic group of students. They are the most hard working, caring, and supportive group of students ever! They are goal setters and achievers. They impress us each and every day! One can learn so much from just being around them.
They are an unique group of students who have a special zest for learning.
They are an inspiration to everyone they meet. The students are in a self contained special education classroom. They have the opportunity to work with both a paraprofessional, interpreter, and myself throughout the day. The students are identified as having multiple disabilities, autism, intellectual disability, or anxiety disorder. They push through their individual roadblocks and keep learning their number one priority.
My Project
The COPE (Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment) program has proven to reduce depressive and anxiety symptoms as well as increasing an improved self- concept. I would complete a 2.5 hour training on how to effectively implement the program. The students will receive small group and individual counseling.
How you think affects how you feel, behave, and learn.
As an educator it is very difficult to watch my students struggle on a daily basis with anxiety, depression, and poor self concept. The COPE program would benefit them tremendously and have a life long effect. Every child deserves to feel comfortable and good about who they are.
