My Project
I love that my students are resilient and willing to work through their struggles. Despite the challenges they face personally and academically, they keep pushing forward working hard to reach their goals. Sometimes you have a rough day and you need a moment to just regroup and hit the reset button. I would like to create a space that would allow students to take a deep breath so they can relax, release and refocus.
I am a high school counselor and I want to create an age appropriate environment that allows a student to have a safe, individual space that can be utilized to refocus when possibly having a difficult day.
To create this area, I am requesting 5 bean bag sofa chairs that would be arranged to provide each student a private space to refocus. I requested 5 headphone sets that would be available for use to allow the student to either block out noise or connect to their device to listen to music or calming sounds that would promote relaxation. I requested a box of disposable ear phone covers to ensure that we keep the headphones sanitary while being used. I also requested 2 copies of an SEL activity book that would allow students to familiarize them with activities that would support students who need to work on mindfulness exercises for emotional regulation.
Unfortunately, many of our students are still experiencing the affects of the pandemic. This space will allow for students to better self-regulate and experience less anxiety long term. This would positively impact the student's attendance and academic performance allowing the student to remain in school and rejoin their classes after they've been able to reset. As a result, students would build their confidence and self-esteem, becoming the successful students they're meant to be .
