Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It’s hard to write one thing a specific about my students that is special. I work at a small community school where I have seen students go on to college as well as having the younger siblings in kindergarten. My students are curious, energetic, and always ready to play. What I love most about our students is the personal relationship that the faculty has with them, as well as their families. They love us and we love them.

One of the best things about education is exposing my students to things that they’ve never seen or tried before and watch them light up!

For this reason I am requesting a soft lacrosse set to expose my kids to a sport that is VERY new to them. My goal is to start with presenting this to my fourth and fifth graders, and then working down to the younger grades. Lacrosse is an amazing sport, which teaches cooperation, athleticism, and teamwork. This game will definitely teach brand new skills that will be helpful in all sports. My goal is for all my students is to have a well rounded educational experiences, which includes physical education.

In NYC this is a sport that is beginning to emerge but it’s still starting up. This sport is one that is predominantly in the suburbs. My son began the sport in the spring and we both fell in love. My biggest inspiration for this project was meeting a team at my sons tournament from Brooklyn who is just starting out. They are working on making the program bigger and better for urban kids. I would love to support this.
