Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.

I have taught here for eighteen years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified, artistic experiences as I can.

In our present situation of teaching with a hybrid model, all of my students are working on their laptops. This is challenging for everyone and has changed our way of learning. We have started an after school club with a small group of students who are able to participate in hands-on activities.

My Project

We are always looking for new experiences for our students in order to inspire creativity. Many of our students have never done any weaving and would enjoy exploring this relaxing activity.

Spending a part of your day weaving is relaxing and a creative way to enjoy color and improve your concentration.

The looms are a way for students to learn some basic weaving skills and create a decorative or functional piece of woven material. The weaving process will also show them how many of the fabrics we wear and use on a daily basis are made.
