This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a low-income demographic where they are susceptible to gangs and violence. Whether they have to work to support their parents or babysit their siblings when they get home, my students come to school no matter the difficulties they face.
My indefatigable students put in the effort to learn every day and they do it to make sure they can create a better life for themselves and their families.
My students are resilient and work hard to not only help build a positive relationship within the school, but also in the community as well.
My Project
Have you ever sat in a school chair to read for an hour? I host a reading intervention class in the early mornings. My students have special needs and get very fidgety after they have been sitting for a while in plastic/wood chair. I am in the process of developing a comfortable reading zone in my room where students can grab their favorite book and read. With these materials, there are a few things that will happen.
With these chairs, students will be more encouraged to pick up a book and read just a little longer, now that they would be more comfortable.
They will be able to sit a little longer and not be so inclined to fidget in their seats or be ready to leave the reading group. When students are more comfortable, they tend to be more relaxed and this helps get that extra reading lesson in.
