My Students
We are growing and supporting each other here at our small public Elementary school in Boston. Our school is full of life, diversity, and wonder. Our students come from a variety of economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. In an urban environment where 71% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch we are fortunate to have 100% of our students working their very hardest to achieve their personal best!
We are energized to support each other and the community that we are a part of.
The children at our school are the future and they are growing and learning as knowledgeable, creative, and compassionate individuals.
My Project
As educators we are well aware that returning to school will be about more than academics; we will need to be highly focused on rebuilding our safe learning environment to recover from the trauma experienced while away from school. Flexible seating is used to create a more comfortable and relaxed environment. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused. Sadly, much of our cozy furniture was removed during the current pandemic (including our beloved reading couch) because it could not easily be cleaned.
My goal is to rejuvenate our learning space and promote learning in a warm and welcoming environment when our scholars return post-pandemic.
My co-teacher and I have already started implementing our plan by purchasing paint and spending a day repainting our classroom top to bottom. We hope to restore our comfortable and relaxed environment with more durable furniture that can be easily sanitized.
Our 5th and 6th graders are motivated, excited about learning, and making progress to reach their reading goals! The correct furniture can really make a difference and with your help, our vision of a comfortable, engaging, and welcoming classroom can be achieved!
