My Students

My middle school students are from a small rural community in Southwestern Oklahoma. Because of the events of the last two years, it seems they are becoming harder to motivate. The learning environment as we knew it has been completely turned upside down. Now more than ever there has to be a balance between in-school learning and digital formats. Curriculum is necessary that will allow an easy transition from in-school learning to a virtual one; sometimes at a moment's notice. Having books in the hands of students will allow them to continue their daily reading whether at school or home.

One of the biggest challenges faced by educators is to access high-interest books that will catch their interests and restore our middle school students thirst for adventure and willingness to get involved and try new things.

Middle school is a time of transition for most kids and having the right reading material in place will make this tough time a little easier.

My Project

These books will continue to provide me with the resources I need to motivate my 6th-8th grade students and reignite their thirst for literature. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind.

With these new books, my students will be able to participate in book discussions which will help them grasp deeper ideas and themes that sometimes they don't quite grasp.

By allowing my students to have this opportunity to read from a variety of genres, it will encourage independent reading. The middle school years can be very difficult and a time when some students lose their love for reading. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. This in turn will help them achieve success throughout high school and enrich their experiences with the printed word.
