This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I would love to create a calming corner for my students to be able to use when they need a calming break from class or when their emotions get too big! My students struggle with processing their feelings. They don't know how to explain their sadness, anxiety, or even their joyful moments.
The calming corner will be a useful tool to teach my students self-awareness, self-advocacy, and self-management skills.
I want them to learn to identify their feelings and steps they can take to advocate for themselves so that can succeed academically.
The calming area I plan to create will have a soft, comfortable red sofa, different type of literature to help students understand and cope with their feelings. I will also have a storage bin with sensory items such as squishy ninja toys and play dough. All my students will have access to the calming area whenever they need it.
