This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students with autism are attending school for the first time in a newly opened Flexroom! This space is designed for students who struggle with self-regulation in the general education setting. One way to help children learn how to self-regulate is by providing them with calm-down corners. Our Flexroom will have a “calm down corner”. A calm down corner is a designated space in a classroom with the sole intent of being a safe space for a child to go to when they feel their emotions are running too high and they need to regain their emotional and physical control. We would like to add Liquid Floor Tiles to our Zen Zone.
The liquid tiles encourage visual processing and sensory stimulation integration and gross motor skill development.
One way to help children learn how to self-regulate is by providing them with sensory items for our calm-down corner. Once the student is calm and regulated they can return to their classroom and are ready for learning.
