This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This sensory corner will serve making my classroom an inclusive, trauma-informed, and accessible space for my students with special needs. This space will help especially with those who may be exhibiting behaviors who need to calm down and self-regulate.

The goal to create a sensory corner will meet the social-emotional needs of my diverse student population so that they can improve focus, reduce behaviors, and improve academic achievement thereby increasing educational equity.

My goals include:

1. Improve student attendance by creating a safe space for students who may have sensory challenges, or are affected by problems at home.

2. Improve academic scores by reducing disruptive behaviors caused by emotional

dysregulation in the classroom.

3. Teach self-regulation skills,which will improve the socio-emotional functioning of students with special needs.

4. Address the IEP goals of students- who may have behavioral/socio-emotional needs.
