My students need the Dell desktops to create multiple technology based projects such as podcasts, blogs, and other technology based projects.

My Students
Schools today are preparing students for jobs that do not even exist yet. In order to be a 21st century learner, students in my classroom will need to have access to the tools of the their future, namely, technology.
My 5th grade class is composed of 34 bright and energetic students.
Together we learn about what it means to be a 21st century learner. Our neighborhood in southern Nevada is a mixture of apartments, town-homes, and custom built houses, yet our students understanding and access to technology is still not equitable.
In a town known for it transient rate, I feel lucky that many of our students are able to remain in our school from kindergarten through 5th grade. This means that the majority of our students have a strong sense of community and pride in their school and neighborhood.
My class environment is one where technology is part of the day-to-day routine. They are using what technology we have to research, blog, and create multimedia projects. Yet with our high class ratio, it is difficult to have enough time to get all the students online creating and learning.
My Project
Three more computers to our classroom would allow students to have constant access to technology. The wireless keyboard would allow students to type responses for the entire class up on the screen. Currently we have two desktops in the classroom, one of which is dedicated to the overhead and document projector. While our school does have a stationary lab, there are only 24 computers available at one time. That means that 10 students have to rotate in during our 50 minute lab time once a week. We also have mobile lab carts with laptops, but they are shared among the entire 4th and 5th grade. All in all, getting consistent use out of our computers is limited to one or two days a week for a short amount of time. I want my students to have access to multiple computers at anytime during our school day, not just during a short window of opportunity. Three more computers would enable my students to have technology work stations to conduct a variety of technology projects.
More computers in our classroom and a wireless keyboard means my students will have a constant and consistent access to 21st century tools for learning.
They will be able to podcast, blog, create Prezi presentations, word process, conduct research, and much, much more.
Having access to multiple computers in my classroom at any given time is what is needed in order to get my class ready for the 21st century.
