My Students

I am excited to be teaching my 3rd year of 6th grade. One of the things I love about 6th grade students is their deeper level of understanding and ability to empathize. I enjoy the meaningful conversations this age group can have with regard to social and moral issues. This year I am excited to share a very powerful book with my students. "Refugee" is a powerful story of 3 children trying to emigrate at various times throughout history. I believe this book will help students better understand the world around them and promote empathy.

This book will not only support goals for literacy and promote the love for reading, but also support cultural awareness.

Please help me fund a class set of Refugee for my students!

My Project

I am always trying to find reaidng material for my students, that will captivate and keep them engaged. After reading "Refugee" over the summer, I realized what a powerful and inspirational book this will be for my 6th grade students. Not only does this book support the love for reading, it also supports cultural awareness and diversity in the classroom. By immersing students in an intriguing and beautifully written book, students will be captivated and engaged.

With the ever changing climate in our society, this book will help students learn to empathize with individuals in their struggles to flee from oppression, violence and hunger.
