Refocus, Reset, and Energize Space for Sensory and Behaviors Students
Help me give my students the ability to have a claming location outside of the classroom, where they can refocus, reengage, and reenergize prior to returning to their classrooms. Many of my students have behavior and sensory issues.
I am a K-1 exceptional education teacher. My students are fantastic! They like school and want to learn. My students sometimes have difficulty with accessing grade-level content, staying on task, and engaging for long periods of time. My students need to be engaged during their learning in order to keep their attention.
My students are able to close some of their learning gaps when given extra time, engaging resources, and accommodations to grade-level content.
My students often need more time to help them learn and this grant will help provide them with an opportunity to have materials that go above and beyond the classroom to enhance their skills. These resources help my students refocus and allow them to learn in an engaging manner.
Many of my students have sensory issues. Providing my students with resources that help them function throughout the school day and enhance their learning is paramount to success.
My Project
Many of my students have sensory and behavior issues. They need a calming place where they can feel safe, refocus, and reset. Having a location where this can occur, allows my students to be able to redirect their frustration and return back to the classroom ready to learn. This project includes a kid's table/chairs, calming lights/ sounds, foam floor tiles, and pencil grips to all add to a student being able to become calm, refocused, and re-energized so that they can go back to the mainstream classroom and work alongside their age-level peers. The more my students have opportunites to be their peers, the better. By having a place for them to reset, rejuvenate, and reengage will help this occur more often.
