My school community is very diverse. We have students on the autism spectrum, as well as students with other learning disabilities. We have students from low-income housing areas and some students identified as gifted and talented. The students at my school are growing up and learning in a community of learners from many different backgrounds. This offers the children amazing opportunities to learn.
The students at my school are very interested in "going green." Students are learning about how they can reduce their carbon footprint.
Each class in our school participates in a school-wide recycling program. Furthermore, each and every student spends time planting, watering, and harvesting fruits and vegetables from our school garden. They also participate in collecting food scraps to add to our garden's compost bins. We hope that our students will grow up to be great environmental stewards.
My Project
With the new water fountain and water bottle filling station, my students and our school community as a whole, will be able to reduce their carbon footprint. Instead of having students and teachers at our school use a new plastic water bottle each and every day, they will be able to refill their reusable water bottles. The water fountains that we currently have do not have great water pressure and the water is often warm. The new water fountain with the filling station will offer an easy place to fill up water bottles with cold water.
Students will learn the importance of "Refill, Not Landfill!" The new water fountain will be able to help our school community reduce waste.
Students will also be able to research the negative effects of trash on our environment and know that they are an important part of the solution. I know that getting the water fountain and filling station will be an amazing addition to our school.
