My students need a current class-set of reference materials to achieve the numerous Alabama Course of Study objectives dealing with research and reference material usage.
We need a reference material make-over! My English 12 classroom provides a positive learning environment for students of multiple intelligences and socio-economic statuses. Since I teach seniors, strategies to be successful in college and the workforce are emphasized.
The large amount of literature covered encourages students to identify and define much vocabulary. Also, the research required in order to pass English 12 causes students to scramble for resources. My large classes need a quality, in-class dictionary collection to ensure they master required objectives. Students entering college must be able to define and identify key concepts on their own. I need resources to make sure they can do that.
By having dictionaries on hand, the students will be able to conduct research and enhance other skills needed in a comfortable, safe environment. Since many students work to pay basic bills, they are left with little money to spend on reference materials for school. This project will enable students to learn needed skills for college instead of worrying about how to get books and materials to use to learn needed skills.
You will make it possible for my students to focus on mastering objectives that will help them to become productive members of society. Only with support of people like you will I be able to teach and mentor the seniors I have the opportunity to reach each year. Please help me teach my students skills that will empower them to educate themselves for life.
