My Students

I teach both middle school and high school band students. My students are very musical, creative, and excited to learn. Every student in the band here has a love for music and expression. They are constantly rising to the occasion. Whenever they are faced with difficulty, they always work hard to overcome the obstacle. They bring energy to every class, football game, and event. They are welcoming, loving, and kind despite the recent transitions between 4 different teachers.

The students here care so much about one another that even after my first week teaching, students were offering to buy each other school materials.

It's clear that the students here love each other very much and want everyone to pursue their love of learning. With your help, we can ensure we have the basic supplies needed to run full-functioning band classes without compromising our learning opportunities and potential.

It is important to note that the primary, elementary, and Middle School feeders are Title 1 schools. The high school used to be Title 1 but is not currently considered Title 1 this school year. All students in Wilkes County receive Free Lunch.

My Project

Students use reeds to play their instruments in class every day. Most of my students cannot afford to purchase reeds and would actively avoid buying reeds while playing on broken, unusable ones.

Would you please help my students by taking this financial burden off of them?

They need your help to play their instruments.

For those of you who do not know how reed instruments work, you need your reed to vibrate to play a reed instrument. It must not have any chips in the wood, or you will squeak and usually get a terrible or strange sound. Students who play reed instruments must replace their reeds as soon as they go wrong. Some reeds don't need to be broken to be incorrect. All reeds lose their ability to vibrate as well after several long-term uses. In several cases at this school, I have found students playing on moldy reeds to avoid buying another one.

This is not my first DonorsChoose project for reeds because we have used all of the clarinet and saxophone reeds from the last one! Thank you so much to previous contributors. You are making a HUGE impact on my students.
