My students need reeds in order to play their woodwind instruments, without the reed the instrument is not playable.

My Students

"Musicians want to be a loud voice for so many quiet hearts." - Billy Joel My students would like to make beautiful music for those quiet hearts. My general music and band classes have been able to confide in me about anything because lyrics and melodies connect us together.

A majority of my students come from a lower income family, they love to play their instruments.

At the beginning of the year, I informed them how much each one was worth so that they would know to really care for their instrument. They were so happy to receive such an honor of having an expensive item. My school has lots of students in the same situation of a lower income family, most of our students receive two meals a day and some even three meals a day. Our administration and faculty are sometimes considered these students' second family because we put so much care into our planning and instruction. We have many after school programs and clubs that all students may participate in and we encourage students to be apart of them.

My Project

My students will be learning how to play the alto saxophone and tenor saxophone along with other band instruments. They will need these reeds in order to play these instruments. I teach them the basics of playing their instrument and also teach them theory so they can apply sight reading skills to their instruments.

This project will improve my classroom so that students do not feel the financial burden of buying reeds.

No other instrument has to pay for equipment to make their instrument play music, so the alto saxophone and the tenor saxophone shouldn't have to either. My students will have a successful concert if we are funded to receive these reeds. My students love playing their instruments for the 'quiet hearts' that Billy Joel describes in his quote, please help my students to reach them.
