Reeds, Double Reeds, and Practice Essentials!

Help me give my students reeds without worrying about the cost to play! Help me provide students in need with their own pair of sticks and practice pad.

My Students

I teach both middle school and high school band, students. My students are very musical, creative, and excited to learn. Every student in the band here has a love for music and expression. They are constantly rising to the occasion. Whenever they are faced with difficulty, they always work hard to overcome the obstacle. They bring energy to every class, football game, and event. They are welcoming, loving, and kind despite the recent transitions between 4 different teachers.

The students here care so much about one another that even after my first-week teaching, students were offering to buy each other school materials.

It's clear that the students here love each other very much and want everyone to pursue their love of learning. With your help, we can make sure we have the basic supplies needed to run full functioning band classes without compromising our learning opportunities and potential.

It is important to note that the Primary School, Elementary School, and Middle School feeders are Title 1 schools. The high school used to be Title 1, but is not currently considered Title 1 this school year.

My Project

This project is similar to my first project for reeds, except that I am purposely including double reeds and percussion! We have the instruments and we start the players, but we cannot keep our double reed players because their reeds are SO expensive.

At a minimum of $10 a reed, my students feel discouraged to stay with an instrument that costs so much to play.

Our program does not have a bassoon player YET! I would like to start one in the Fall. To encourage this future student to play, I would like to give this student their first several reeds, so that when they break them, it does not also break the wallet at a minimum of $13 a reed. This prevents money from becoming an obstacle in their first few months of playing, an essential in creating a positive, encouraging environment where students feel successful.

Similar to our previous project, I have included more Bb clarinet Vandoren reeds, because many of my students have already used the ones we gave them! This is great and not a single student hesitates now when I ask them to throw away their badly chipped reed (bad reeds=bad sounds). This is proof alone that your donations are working magic in my classroom! Yay!

I have added drum sticks and drum pads because believe it or not, many of my percussion students reuse classroom sticks and mallets. This means that they cannot usually take sticks home to practice and are forced to do most of their playing only at school. Imagine going to school and your backpack filled with all of your pencils, pens, paper, and homework simply stayed put at the school. I would like to give students who cannot afford sticks and/or a drum pad to have them at no cost.
