This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in the epicenter of the homeless crisis; skid row in Los Angeles. Some of my students are living in shelters around the LA area others are living in a room with their entire family. Both situations are impossible learning conditions.

My students are being asked to log on for three hours a day, but under these conditions they are not able to concentrate.

The lucky few who have their own area to study are doing better. But it is unfair for those who aren't so lucky. I would like to give those who need it a way to help them with their studies.

My Project

Like I said before, my students are not in ideal situations, they don't always have parents to help them. They sometimes have siblings within inches of them, they have TVs on in the background, parents or other adults talking in the same room. They don't have a place to go to.

The headphones will allow them to cancel out all that noise around them.

My intention is for them to wear it during their virtual lessons. All of the lessons require for students to listen attentively and the headphones will allow them to focus on the screen. My students need a way to separate themselves for a couple of hours and my hope is that the headphones will allow for this. This digital divide between families has never been so apparent, my goal is to close this divide by a couple of inches.
