Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students are helping our community through recycling. I am a 6th grade self-contained teacher in a low income south side urban school.

Many of our students do not have the support needed at home to succeed in school. The only opportunity they have is when they come to school. I have given my students a project that they are excited about which involves recycling and how to save energy. They will incorporate this project throughout the school so other students and teachers can recycle and save energy one step at a time.

The resources that we need are trash cans. This project will help every student learn how to recycle material and it will help them learn how to make their environment a cleaner place. They will learn how recycling is involved with global warming and what it does to our environment. I believe that by the end of the project, all of the students will take what they learned and apply it at home.

With your help, this project will go into effect and my students will have a sense of accomplishment knowing that they are making a difference in their environment. They will be given an opportunity to take a challenge and learn what it takes to recycle material into its proper container.
