My Students

Our school is in a large metropolis with many of the same challenges facing other cities this size. As teachers, we're sensitive to the fact that many of our students struggle to get their basic needs met. All students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch. Each year our school has more students who are homeless. Most of our students come to school carrying the heavy load of some kind of significant trauma.

Our class is a self-contained, special education behavior unit.

We have great kids! We just need a little extra help. Our classroom is a safe environment designed to help us focus and learn.

My Project

It is difficult for parents to come into school and see what we are working on in the classroom. Many parents work full time jobs, have no transportation or are with their other children. Every week, I send home a detailed newsletter to inform parents about what is happening in school that week. Having ink for our printer will also give me the opportunity to include color photos in the newsletter of the children as they are learning. Students will be able to show their parents the photos and have a discussion with their parents about the activity. All parents will get a peek through this "classroom window" to see what their child is learning at school.

The color ink will be useful when adding documents to each child's portfolio stating their strengths and what they are currently working on at school.

The ink will also be used to post photos of the children in the classroom and to print out photo directions of classroom rules for young children who do not yet read.
