Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Located in Connecticut, the school enrolls students from various backgrounds. Within my classroom students are representing various ethnic groups, celebrate various traditions, some are English Learners, some are facing the challenges of learning disabilities, and many are from underprivileged neighborhoods. Despite our differences, we are all eager to learn from our environment and each other.

Being a part of an inner city school, we are living the life of systematic challenges; budget and funding.

Within an inconsistent budget, teachers are forced to supply many of the materials that are used throughout our daily explorations. Furthermore, resources for institutions such as mine are lacking in depth needed for the full potential of educational experiences.

The students within my classroom are eager to learn and learn best through hands-on experiences, consisting of opportunities made available throughout their environment. As a STEM school, it is my obligation to provide opportunities to support our curriculum, with limited meaningful manipulatives. However, we develop as a class, in order to learn from what we have, and what is most important, each other (teachers, students, parents).

My Project

School uniforms is required through the City of Hartford. Uniforms have been a requirement to decrease students in identifying themselves by the clothes one wears.

Although school uniforms have been useful in decreasing bullying within the city, a family struggling may find purchasing uniforms a burden.

Since more than half of our families are classified as being in the low socioeconomic category, any assistance in starting the school year would be much appreciated to those families most in need.

As being in a school that supports the education of our youngest learners, making a positive impression on the school system that will assist in relationship building and support of education among parents, students and teachers.
