Help me give my students the opportunity to share their passion for saving the earth and recycling by having recycling bins, a pencil sharpener, and books, to demonstrate and teach others on the proper ways to recycle and reduce their carbon footprint.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I have the amazing opportunity to loop up with some of my students from last year. Last year they worked extremely hard to overcome obstacles in reading. With the help of a funded DonorsChoose project, many of my students succeeded at moving reading levels. In addition to working on personal goals, we’ve been working on the impact we have on our environment and overall world. We began a Recycling Champions Club and are in our second year.
At the end of the school year we discussed their plans for "next year" and they agreed that they should continue with a class wide goal to ensure that all the classrooms and offices in our school recycle and reduce the amount of trash that we put out.
Setting future goals is what makes my students awesome. It shows their hunger for knowledge and appetite for success.
Despite the academic and economic challenges my students face, they have seen first-hand that with hard work, they can overcome many obstacles. As a teacher, my ultimate goal is to have my students succeed, be proud of themselves and never give up no matter how hard things may appear.
My Project
Recycling Champions club members will be able to go into each individual classroom and teach other students about why recycling is so important as well as their ability to impact on the world.
Students will conduct classroom audits to ensure that all classrooms are using their 3-bin system to help them reduce, reuse and recycle all items that are discarded.
Once these audits are conducted, students will assign a letter grade that will be posted outside each classroom's bulletin board reflecting their recycling efforts. Club members will go into each classroom that needs extra support and guidance and provide peer intervention to teach students how to properly recycle using the materials funded through this grant.
