Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When I think about my students, I refer to the Star Wars quote, "The force is strong with this one" and switch it to "these ones." With that mantra, my students come to school willing to try their best. My students make me want to be a better teacher.
I have been fortunate to have taught for many years, but this year, anything that involves any long term, thematic projects lights my students' faces up.
Anything that has to do with hands-on lessons or activities, my students absorb it like sponges. I feel that a hands-on approach to learning will greatly benefit my students and their curiosity for learning.
My Project
The arcade system that I am requesting is a project will be built by the Lego/STEM club. The arcade machine makes a direct connection to the gaming passion they share with each other and myself. In addition to playing the machine during indoor recess, it will be a major incentive to help my at risk students; it is literally something that they will work hard for.
In addition to the fun part of the arcade, this machine will also be used as a model to create other types of machines.
This is one of my STEM projects this year, specifically building and programming computers.
My belief is that if the students are involved with the engineering and building process, they will really understand the details of each part. This is a project that my students won't forget. I am hoping by doing this, students will be more involved in computer science and understand how it relates to the world. The more the student's curiosity is nurtured, the more it will grow. Thank you in advance for your generosity and supporting STEM projects and education.
