I teach art to 7th and 8th grade students at the School Without Walls. SWW is an expeditionary learning school that believes that learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom.
We are limited in our art supplies, though many of our students are very interested in learning how to paint. Canvas, acrylic paints and the proper supplies are expensive and hard to come by.
My goal is to introduce the students in this urban school to the paintings of some of the great and well known artists of the world: Van Gogh, O'Keeffe, Picasso, Seurat, Monet, Kahlo, Lawrence, and others. Students will study one of these "master" artists, learn about their style of art and recreate a painting that a particular artist has done. Students will learn how to use acrylic paints and paint on canvas. This project will help students become more familiar with a variety of artists, and help them learn the skills and tools to expand their own craft.
Your help will make it possible for my students to experience the art of many great artists. Students will begin to know and understand the history of art and how it has impacted us and our society. Your help will ensure that my students are able to have a creative outlet and learn an art medium they may otherwise not have learned.
