My Students
My students are the youngest learners in a 3-K to fifth grade school in Brooklyn. About 90% of the students in our school receive free lunch.
My students are three years old; such precious ages.
They are fun, sweet, and excited to learn new things and be with their classmates and teachers on Zoom.
My Project
When preschoolers attend school they learn through play. We use a variety of materials to help spark children's curiosity and imagination. The experience is truly magical! I would love to provide some key materials to the children, in order to recreate the hands-on experiences of the classroom, at home during remote learning.
A major part of the preschool experience is choice time, in which the children are free to explore and create.
In the classroom we have areas of the classroom called centers where children explore all kinds of materials. One popular center is the art center. My students will be able to create their own art at home using the crayons, paper, scissors, and watercolor paints. They will use their imaginations, develop fine-motor skills, and build language skills as they talk about their creations, all while having tons of fun.
One of the most fun and exciting centers for the children is the sensory center, where we usually have sand, water, and other hands-on materials. In this center, children use their senses to learn and make discoveries. The kinetic sand will help recreate this center at home. Children will use their imaginations to create and play pretend using the kinetic sand. They will also build hand-eye coordination as they scoop and move the sand. An added benefit of kinetic sand, is it is very soothing when you touch it, and will help children keep calm in these very unsettling times.
I also find that when students bring materials to our Zoom class meetings, they tend to participate more and are more engaged in class. Therefore, these materials will help get my students excited about learning at home and through Zoom.
Help me bring the magic of the preschool classroom into the homes of each of my students.
