This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students want to play musical instruments! I teach general music to students from Kindergarten through 8th grade in a high-need community.
Every day, my students ask me to bring in instruments from my home. When I do, they carefully pass them around and ask me many questions about playing them. They would love to play instruments but funding at our school makes it impossible to purchase any.
I would love to get 100 recorders for my school and use them with my four most enthusiastic music classes (3rd and 4th grades). I know that my students will be thrilled to have their own instruments and will eagerly learn the fundamental basics required to play recorder music. They would have the opportunity to learn many aspects of woodwinds instruments and could prepare themselves to play instruments such as the clarinet, saxophone, and flute, among others.
Your help would give my students the chance to experience music in a hands-on way that will be exciting to them. With their recorders, my students will learn to read music and get the chance to perform for their friends and families in concerts. They will be given a chance to pursue a life full of music.
