My Students

I teach ninth grade American Government and Tools for College Success. My students are 13-15 years old, and my school is Title I, where 98% of students qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch based on local socioeconomic factors in the community.

My students are creative, thoughtful, and eager to learn.

I have a passion for providing my students the best educational experience, despite adversities. I strive to ensure my classroom is a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment.

My Project

My school has implemented the PBIS program (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support). We are implementing this program schoolwide, but I also want to reward my students for their work ethic and behavior in my classroom. The kids love to be recognized for doing well and I want this to carry over into my classroom. Additionally, I want to recognize when my students are overwhelmed and are able to access the resources to address their needs.

I believe it is crucial to ensure the students are comfortable in the classroom for proper functioning of the brain and body -- after all, they spend more time at school than at home.

I want to continue rewarding my students for positive behaviors such as passing a test, winning a review game, participating during class, etc. I have also begun a "Wheel of Fortune" game in my classroom where students who have maintained a 100% for their professionalism points have their names drawn for prizes weekly.

The candy and snacks being requested will be rewarded as incentives. The scissors are needed for group activities, while the broom, dustpan and cleaning supplies will allow us to keep the room tidy and clean. The coloring books will be used by students as a way to combat their emotions, along with the fidget spinners. The space heater will make the room cozy. I want to provide a space that is conducive to my students learning. The items requested will provide emotional and mental support for my students.
