Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I feel that Science is a hands-on learning experience that requires materials for the students to use and manipulate. I teach 8th grade Science in a high-need community. My students really want to learn and do laboratory activities.
I currently do not receive an annual budget to purchase science supplies and equipment for my classroom. I must purchase things out of my own pocket or borrow them. Either way, I have access to a limited quantity. My students and I are very excited that Electricity and Magnetism is now a unit we will be covering in 8th grade but I need equipment so my students can truly get into the inquiry process that is fundamental to learning anything in science.
The Van de Graaff generator will allow my students to vividly see the power of static electricity. The mulitmeters will allow my students to measure voltage in several inquiry activities such as creating their own fruit or vegetable powered battery.
You will make it possible for my students to fully participate in the inquiry process. Without your help my students will miss out some very valuable learning opportunities.
