My Students

Our Tag Reader pens constantly announce, "It's time to change your batteries!" Our special education classroom uses many batteries for our adaptive devices and learning tools during the school year, and replacing them constantly is expensive. We want to "go green" by using rechargeable batteries.

Our Title One school is located in a high-poverty, urban area of Virginia, and 77.6% of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged.

Our school is designated as a math, science, and technology magnet within our city. My special needs preschool students have been identified as having developmental delays. They attend a public elementary school and range in age from 2-6 years old. My students are so eager to learn and are excited about coming to school. I want to continue building on their enthusiasm for learning!

My Project

We have recently been so excited to receive 10 sets of Leap Frog's Tag Reading System from the generosity of DonorsChoose.org donors. My students are engaged with books like never before, and are thrilled when it's their turn to check the reading system and books out overnight. In fact, they have been so busy using these educational literacy products, that the batteries have been exhausted. I purchased extra batteries to have on hand as they inevitably died, but my supply is also now gone. I would like to "go green" in our classroom by using reusable batteries that will help save my pocketbook and the environment. In addition to the TAG readers, my early childhood special education class uses many switch devices and augmentative communication tools that require the use of batteries. My students would love to be able to continue using these items.

By making a gift of a battery charger and rechargeable batteries for our AAA and AA battery-powered devices, you can help my students continue using valuable educational tools.

Thank you for helping us learn and conserve valuable resources.
