This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fourth graders are a fun, social group with lots of energy. They count down the minutes until recess. It’s their time to move, laugh, and be kids. When the weather is nice, you'll find them outside running around and enjoying the fresh air, but on cold or rainy days, it’s tougher to find something that keeps everyone happy and off their computer screens.

That’s why I’m hoping to add some new indoor and outdoor recess supplies that will help my students unplug, stay active, and connect with each other in meaningful ways.

I still remember my own favorite recess memories like playing four square, jump rope, and board games with friends, and I’d love for my students to make those same kinds of memories with their classmates.

My students love to play soccer, but we don't have official soccer goals in our recess spot. The pop-up soccer goals will make our daily soccer matches way more exciting (and fair!), and the jump ropes, kickballs, chalk, and toss paddles will give every student a way to get moving. The other requested materials will provide my students with new games like Apples to Apples Jr., Tapple, Super Mario Monopoly, and sport stacking cups to keep recess fresh and fun when we can’t get outside.

I don’t allow computers during indoor recess. I want it to be a time to unplug and connect with classmates. These new games will help my students build friendships, laugh together, and create memories they will look back on for years to come.

I know these materials will be well-loved and used for many years by my amazing students.
