I teach Elementary Physical Education in a Title I school to about 630 students. In addition, I teach a special needs class of 15 students who need assistance to help demonstrate gross motor skills. The majority of my students live in apartments with no outside play area.
Because I want my students to live healthy lives, I try to introduce them to as many sports as possible.
I also express the importance of nutrition and the benefits of physical activity into adulthood.
My Project
This year, I've taught my students recess games to get them more active and moving in order to get them to moderate to vigorous activity levels. The playground handballs will be used with a game called hoop ball. The rubber band balls are used to improve reaction and hand-eye skills in a game called hoop guard.
All these resources will benefit the activity levels in my students as well as keep students engaged in fun games.
My hope is to keep kids involved and moving and decrease off-task behavior. These resources and games will bring excitement, fun, and improvement in behaviors.
