My Project
Recess is an essential part of the day for my students in grades 1–2, all of whom are on the autism spectrum. It gives them the opportunity to move their bodies, build social skills, and practice self-regulation. However, our current recess equipment is very limited and worn down, which makes it difficult for my students to engage in meaningful, active play. That’s why I’m asking for support to provide fun, sensory-friendly items like bubbles, balls, jump ropes, and hula hoops.
These materials may seem simple, but they offer tremendous benefits for my students.
Bubbles help with calming and deep breathing, balls promote hand-eye coordination and teamwork, and jump ropes and hula hoops are great for building motor skills and confidence. Most importantly, these tools can be used in structured and unstructured play, giving my students the freedom to explore, move, and connect in ways that support their individual needs.
