Recess, Recess, Recess!!

My students need playground equipment to play organized games on the playground while at recess.

My Students

No more Red Rover, Red Rover, or Tag you are It. Times have changed were kids can play those types of games. No physical contact allowed is the rule nowadays.

In our school district there are all types of wonderful kids.

However they are not all given the same types of social interactions. I teach in a predominately African-American school. Most, but not all the children have some of the same tendencies to be rough and less verbal about their feelings. Some still have to be taught how to play correctly and tell the difference between an accident and something done on purpose. Character and community building is very important to me in my class.

My Project

With the recess materials I will be able to show the children how to take turns and how to communicate with each other in a respectful tone. We will play a game of kick ball and learn how to show good sportsmanship. Playing at recess is something that all children look forward. It is our school policy that while we are at recess we are to play organized games, with the playground equipment we will be following those very important rules. My students will learn to be fair and respectful all while having fun at recess!

Some children never have an opportunity to do things differently.

No one has shown them a better way to respond, ask, or get respect. So I feel that even when the children are at recess they can learn. They will learn those all so important social skills needed to get along with others and gain respect.
