Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach first grade special education in a collaborative classroom. Many of my students are developmentally delayed. I teach students that need occupational therapy and speech and language therapy as well as learners with Down's Syndrome, Autism and ADHD. While my classroom is full of diverse learners, they all enjoy coming to school. It is their happy place. In my classroom everyone is an equal. My students are motivated, inspired, and are encouraged to be creative thinkers. The school where I teach is in a area where people struggle daily. When my students enter my classroom I want them to understand we are all equal regardless of finances, religion, education, race, or gender.
My Project
My class really needs activities that allow students to play in groups or individual safely while at recess outside. There is only pavement, so having activities such as the scooter rollers on wheels, the catch in cup, the soft balls, will allow students to have fun but not get hurt outside.
We would be using all of the recess activities everyday outside.
My students carry the activities on a cart or in milk crates. We invite other kindergarten and first grade classrooms to play with our activities, if they are outside with us in the playground. This helps promote kindness and sharing. They learn how to have fun using the activities and also show cooperation and responsibility when putting them back into the cart or milk crates when it is time to line up to go back inside of our building.
Please consider funding this grant so my classroom has new updated activities to play with outside. Thank you.
