Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, write, build, and read. As the ELD teacher for kindergarten and first grade, I spend my time pushing into classrooms to teach English language learners. We are about to go 100% in person and it's going to be tight quarters in our small classrooms.
My students come from impoverished backgrounds, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
These materials are needed for a novel inside recess center experience. After a year of virtual learning, putting away materials, and waiting; we can now get into pods and experiment with hands-on experiences. These paints, marbles, dough, and other activities are wonderful for sparking conversations in our ELL classrooms. Students are excited to discover and create original arts and games. I love watching them speaking, listening, learning, and writing.
Our students will be thrilled to have opportunities to learn and explore.
A few fun recess activities will break up their day and give them active things to do instead of looking at another screen.
