This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in the second smallest city in Los Angeles County. Our elementary school is 400 students strong. We have 1 percent African American, and 98 percent Latinos. We have a 90 percent socioeconomically disadvantaged population and 4 percent foster youth. 100% of our students get free lunch. Despite the many challenges they face, my students arrive every morning full of life, ready to learn, and excited to get started on our day. I do my best to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
Reading often feels impossible for students who are still learning their sounds. Scholastic Rebus Readers have always helped my students feel successful when reading because they are of high interest and they love the pictures and stories.
Rebus Readers are a great resource to help children feel successful in reading.
I will use these books to help students build fluency and confidence during reading groups. I will also allow students to use these books for independent reading.
I love that they come with more than one copy, which will also allow me to use them for buddy reading and group reading.
