it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This fall, I’ll be moving into a portable classroom after the closure of our beloved school. While I’m doing everything I can to prepare for this transition, one major issue remains: we’ve been told that the new classrooms will not come with adequate storage—and there’s no budget to provide it.
My students deserve a space where they can focus on their learning—not where they’ll have to wonder where supplies are, whether their projects are safe, or if there’s even room to store their notebooks.
The portable assigned to me has only a small countertop with limited space underneath and one aging cabinet with a questionable lock. That’s the only built-in storage for a room that will serve both 7th grade math and yearbook/media production—two courses that rely heavily on materials, student work, and sensitive media equipment.
This project will allow me to set up the classroom my students need before the first day of school. With shelves, carts, and accessible storage systems, we can create a functional, secure, and organized space that respects their time, their creativity, and their learning.
