The children that attend Briarwood are comprised of middle to low income families.
Many come from multi-sibling families and a large portion of those families rent their homes. Some have parents that are no longer or never married therefor they frequently travel from parent-to-parent throughout the school week. Many teachers offer free before-after school tutoring to educate the students who lack parental support at home.
My Project
My students need a soft, comfortable, and inviting area in which to read and listen to stories. The need for an organized, yet soothing area in my classroom will help to instill a love of reading. I am requesting the storage containers to hold books and individual headphones for each student to be easy to carry to a quiet area in our classroom.
If it is to be an area of the classroom students wish to visit frequently it should feel and look different from the rest of the room.
The space itself should be inviting and more relaxed than the classroom. Comfortable furniture with places to read and organization can do wonders.
