I've only met my students this year for one day because our community and school were affected by the Great Flood in Louisiana. They live in all different neighborhoods and come from different backgrounds. Several of my students lost everything in their homes and many are displaced right now. Many of my students are rebuilding their homes or housing other families. Their little lives have been turned upside down in the matter of a few days and the last week and a half has been very trying.
My Project
The requested manipulatives and activities will provide hands on learning for my students. Students at such a young age need multiple ways to see and learn different skills. These activities will be used in small group learning as well as teacher groups. The manipulatives will be used in small groups and whole group learning so that my students will be able to visualize the numbers and problems they are learning and working. My whole classroom was flooded in Louisiana. I want to create an amazing learning environment and give my new students the same opportunity for learning as my students in the past. Many of my students have lost so much at their personal homes and have been displaced; I don't want them to feel like school is just another place struggling to get what we need. I want them to come in and feel some sort of normalcy and learning.
