Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Title 1 school is taking a school wide approach to helping improve literacy skills in our building. As a result, we have been tasked with helping to build a school culture of reading.

The goal is to provide racial representation via a diverse set of text options for students to select from.

The books selected here focus on themes of diversity, equality, migration, refugee, racial equality, discrimination, and identity. Students will be able to select a book from this list, receive a bookmark, and chart their progress (book selection to completion). We will kick off their book selection day with their favorite snack, Hot Cheetos! The 100 day bookmarks will be a great way to celebrate reading. For too long, so many kids have given up on reading or they feel school ruined reading. Let’s bring joy back to the classroom.
