My Project

The books I am looking to purchase go along with a book called "Rebellious Read Alouds: Inviting Conversations About Diversity with Children's Books," and it's written by Vera Ahiyya. The idea these books is that, through reading them together as a class, students will gain a greater understanding that no one thing society tells us is the right "normal." There is no one right way of existing, living, and moving throughout the world.

These books will be read to students to help facilitate difficult conversations about the importance of our names, features, traditions, actions, families, identities, disabilities, foods, and histories.

I want all of my students to see themselves represented within the literature that we read in our classroom, and I want them to know and believe in their inherent value and worth through our class discussions and conversations.
