My students need fun ways to strengthen their fine motor skills by using tongs, spoons, spatulas and the visual motor and perceptual, balance, and coordination activities these games provide.

My Students
I have the privilege of working in a metropolitan school district which is comprised of a diverse, multicultural, multi-lingual group of students.
Developing strong hand functioning is a key to successful handwriting as well as fine motor development.
By playing games, it is more motivating to work on developing these integral skills.
Early childhood is a critical time to build these skills so the kids will be successful when they move into kindergarten at their local elementary school.
My Project
The games that I am requesting will help my students develop strategic thinking and fine motor skills. Playing games will also improve their social and academic skills as they practice taking turns, counting, learning letters, and colors.
The kids in the classroom love to play games.
It is not unusual to have 10 out of the 14 kids in a class session playing games during free play! What a great time to be intentional with building skills while the kids are having fun!
The games in this project use tongs to pick up items, spoons to scoop, and spatulas to "flip" foods. As well, they work on counting, numbers, taking turns, patterns, speed, memory, dexterity, and visual perceptual skills. These skills are important to be successful in kindergarten as well as developing strong handwriting and reading skills.
Imagine working on all these skills when the kids just think they are playing!
