Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My elementary school serves students PreK to 8th grade. Ninety-eight percent of our students receive a free or reduced priced lunch. I teach students in grade 3 and 4. The students in my classroom love hands on learning. They enjoy putting things together and creating things to take home. They are always so proud of their work!

Hard work is the norm in our classroom!

Learning new things during the day and reinforcing the learning with homework every night isn't easy but these students are up to the challenge! They understand that sometimes they have to put in more work than other students and they never complain. When goals are met, we celebrate and then move on to their next goal. They are my inspiration.

My Project

These materials will support my students learning when analyzing text in a story or other passage. Most of my students are reading now and they need to really understand what they are reading and not just words. Inferences are difficult for students to learn because they are not concrete. The Close Reading and Comprehension Teaching Center, the Making Inferences, Finding Evidence Kit and the Read and Respond using Evidence Card Bank will be helpful in supporting my instruction.

Comprehension of material is an integral part of learning.

Students must be able to understand their reading and analyze the purpose of a text. My students need practice and different ways to learn these skills. These materials would be a great support for my students.
