Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an ESL teacher in district 75 and I am teaching students with autism. They are having many challenges daily in learning due to their low cognitive ability but they are learning English for the first time so they need to have a lot of visual support.
My school is in Bronx and most of my students come from low income families.
They don't have much support at home to help them to learn. My students need to use laminated picture symbols for PECS and ABA. Also we are using Fitzgerald color coding on word walls to help them to form a sentence correctly. Since they use the pictures every day, the pictures have to get laminated.
My Project
If we have easy access to a laminator, I can make the picture symbols and laminate them during my prep and use them on the same day. The students will use them every day during ESL sessions and in their class since they carry their PECS binders with them from a class to all the related services. It will enhance their learning pace and make them to succeed.
This donation will let me to make more symbols which go with my lesson plan daily.
It will help my students to improve their reading comprehension skills and writing. Since I will have the laminator in my class, I can work more on my lesson plan.
