My Students
We may be a small country school but we have a humongous appetite for learning!
I am very fortunate to teach 5th, 7th, and 8th grade Reading and Language Arts at a school that is filled with outstanding individuals who will someday be exceptional leaders of tomorrow.
Each hour when the school bell rings, a group of amazing students rush through my classroom door full of life and eager to learn. Like most small rural middle schools, our students are active in reading, academics, leadership, sports, 4H, and raising show animals.
My Project
My project will enhance students' literacy skills by creating a more conducive learning environment that is geared toward small group learning. My goal is to establish a reading center that consists of a 24" x 48" activity table and 5 student chairs. Group novels will be assigned based on students' reading levels and their interests. Student groups will meet in the reading center at designated times to read and discuss the literary elements of their group novel. By providing a collaborative reading center, I hope to increase reading comprehension, make managing and utilizing classroom time easier, and provide students with more face to face teacher and peer interaction.
