My students need cameras to take pictures of real world science! They also need a printer and ink.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Zabala's classroom raised $1,595
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of the population is receiving free or reduced-rate lunch. The students in our school are well-behaved and are always looking for a challenge. Our school is located in a central part of the city where many cultures live together. Our school is unique because even with such a diverse population, the students manage to get along and do the job that is expected from each and every one of them. We are fortunate to have a science lab, which services students from 2nd-5th grades. This lab is important so that students can become involved in more hands-on STEAM activities as part of the regular curriculum.
My Project
My students will use the digital cameras to take real life pictures of things happening around them in the world. They will have an opportunity to go to the park, family trips, nature walks, museums, field trips, etc. and take pictures of science and math in action. These experiences will allow them to capture the moments of topics that they learned in math and science. Students can report on how the pictures or videos they took relate to what they are learning in the classroom.
Students can take a picture of their brother or friend sliding down a slide at the park.
They can print the picture, and write a report on how friction and gravity are the forces behind the reason why the person is falling and stopping. If they go on a trip to the Everglades with their family, they can take pictures of different animals. They can print the pictures, and report on the classification of animals (reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds). Students can take pictures of the different stages of metamorphosis of a butterfly. Going to the supermarket and taking pictures of items, and using the prices of the items to come up with real world math problems. These are only a few ways that the students will use the cameras at home.
Science is happening at all times around us. Children need to be able to see and document science happening in their world. Children cannot only rely on books and computers to give them the information. Students need to explore and capture the moment when things happen in their personal lives and relate it to topics that they are learning in school.
